The schedule for the 2008 World Series of Poker has now been announced. This year they have the same number of tournaments (55) but they’ve switched up the kind of style of several of them so there’s more variety. There are more low buy in hold em events, a new heads up tournament (which should […]

I’m always surprised to hear what people call their favorite hands. A lot of people say, “I like whatever wins the pot.” Ok, good. A lot of other people say, “My favorite hand is aces.” Thanks. Aces are okay, though they actually aren’t my favorite hand because they usually end up getting tangled with and […]

So in my absence from playing cash games, I have been using the Full Tilt player points that I accumulated during my online days, which have since been just sitting there doing nothing. I don’t want their poker merch because I don’t like to sport chode style, and I don’t have enough for any of […]

Pretty decent lineup for this week’s Poker After Dark, if you’ve been paying attention.
Daniel Negreanu, Mike Mizrachi, Howard Lederer, Tuan Le, Gus Hansen and Erick Lindgren. Table full of loons.
This show varies pretty widely in its quality depending on who’s playing but that’s a pretty much guaranteed lineup for interesting play.
2 AM on NBC.

I’ve been thinking a bit about trying to fix leaks in a bankroll. I’ve been playing excellently lately for the most part and still can’t see to more than break even, mostly due to a series of crappy beats. Though I’ve been paying more attention to hands that make me lose money. Or hands that […]

No more until the new year, if then.
I will continue to blog about things that jump into my little mind.
Poker is always the mother-b*tch.

So, at my most visited local game, there’s one particular player, who I’ll call DAVE, who no matter what I do I can’t seem to take down.
In the past 3 weeks, there have been 5 different big hands where we got it all in with me as a huge favorite, and DAVE drawing to 2-4 […]

Freerolls can be fun and, hell, they’re free, but a lot of the times I find them more trouble than they’re worth. Playing a freeroll definitely requires an entirely different set of skills than playing a sit n go or a real tournament, mostly because you are playing against people who either (a) don’t know […]

At my last session of a local $1/$2 game, I went on a pretty big rollercoaster ride, running my initial $100 buyin up to $200, down to $50, back up to $150, back down to $60, and so on. I’d gotten a little punchy at this point as I couldn’t seem to make more than […]

Early Tuesday morning poker superstar Chip Reese was found dead in his bed by his son at his Las Vegas home. He was 56 years old. He’d been suffering from symptoms of pneumonia, and died quietly, while sleeping.
Reese was a 3-time WSOP bracelet holder, including the 2005 HORSE event that many players consider the ultimate […]
