American Tim Vance Set Final Table Marathon Record and Takes Home Championship

Grabs $1.2 Million with Victory at the Denmark Open in Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark – February 25, 2008 – Tim Vance, a 46-year-old contractor from Millstadt, IL, took home $1.2 million after winning the European Poker Tour (EPT) Scandinavian Open at the Casino Copenhagen in Denmark.  Vance’s win came at the end of a four and a half hour heads-up marathon, the longest in EPT history.

“Winning the title was as important to me as the money,” said Vance.  “It was a tough competition though, as tough as anywhere I’ve ever played.  Now I just can’t wait to call my daughter Nanzi.  She’s been watching it back home with her grandmother.”

Vance beat Denmark’s Soren Jensen, with an ace-high flush. He had A-10 of spades when the flop hit 8S- 7C- 2C.  The turn produced a three of spades.  Jensen went all in after a four of spades hit on the river. Vance then leaned in and said, “It’s been nice playing with you sir, I call….”

Vance won his seat to the EPT Copenhagen through PokerStars in a Frequent Player Point satellite tournament.  PokerStars sent 94 other satellite winners to the event as well.  Aside from his $1.2 million winnings, Vance also received a seat, courtesy of PokerStars, to Europe’s biggest poker tournament: the EPT Grand Final, which takes place in Monte Carlo from April 12-17, 2008.

The tournament attracted 460 players, and a record Scandinavian prize pool of nearly $4.2 million.  Among the players were Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Champion Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Bill Chen, Katja Thater, Dario Minieri, Tom McEvoy and Noah Boeken.  Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano cashed in 27th place for $16,785, making it his eighth time in the money at an EPT.

Jensen took home a little over $700,000 for his second place finish.  Third place and approximately $407,000 went to Denmark’s Magnus Hansen, another PokerStars qualifier.  American Danial Ryan also won his seat on PokerStars and took home $255,000 after finishing fifth.

The next EPT is in Warsaw, Poland (March 11-15, 2008). Satellites for the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, as well as EPT Warsaw and San Remo, are running now at PokerStars.net.
