Bad Beat Jackpot
Has anybody ever been in on a bad beat jackpot? I’ve met a few old guys who say they have, and I know they happen. That must be the best feeling in the world. The whole poker room on fire and newly gambling with their free money. Either that or they clear out to go spend their cash.
I don’t know what I’d do if $4,000 fell in my lap because I happened to be in a room at the right time.
But you also hear horror stories of how the jackpot was met but not awarded by some technicality. There’s a list of rules a mile long that have to be met in order for the eligibility to go down, like supposedly if a guy has a rack on the table, the bad beat can be turned down. I’m sure if it ever happens and I’m there, we won’t get it because someone’s shoes are untied or it’s a religious holiday or something strange like that.
Either that or I’ll have gotten up to go to the bathroom and not been at the table when it happens.
Man.

My last trip to fl I was at the gray hound track and there biggest table is a 5/10 nl with $100 max buy in(no kidding) so every hand is almost an all in. some guy hit the jackpot for 16000. Gave everyone at the table $100 but I was at the 1/2 nl. But its not a bad beat there you have to have a royal flush of diamonds thats it.

I have not won a bad beat jackpot but I have seen them hit all around me when i’m at the card rooms here in LA.
You are absolutely right about the list of rules and the house tries emphatically to find a reason not to give out the cash prize.
A rack on the table is a big no-no, showing your hands and checking it down (this may not be enforced by all casinos), and a bunch more esoteric rules that no one but the house knows about.
It only takes one infraction to negate the whole prize for the entire table. So people get pretty upset when the house comes back after reviewing the tapes and says no payout.
I remember once a big jackpot hit and then they found out that one of the patrons was under the age of 18 thus negating the jackpot.
Security had to escort him to his car. Guys where going to seriously hurt him.
it was somewhat funny.
I’m also not a big fan of the jackpots as they are tools to bring people in. People who won’t play anything but aces waiting for the jackpot hand.

that’s hilarious. I’ve heard some awesome stories about people mucking bad beats because they didn’t realize they had a straight flush and they saw the other person’s quads. funny stuff.
