Favorite Hands
I’m always surprised to hear what people call their favorite hands. A lot of people say, “I like whatever wins the pot.” Ok, good. A lot of other people say, “My favorite hand is aces.” Thanks. Aces are okay, though they actually aren’t my favorite hand because they usually end up getting tangled with and I’d rather play something I can fold if there’s a raise and I miss.
My personal favorite hand for a while has been Q-10. For some reason I win a lot with this hand. I make a good amount of straights with it, I almost always flop a pair, and I’ve probably made more non-pair boats with it than any other hand.
Cheeze, a player from the regular game I attend, tuned me in to the 6-3, which surprisingly wins more than you’d recognize, and is easy to dump. And no one would EVER put you on that hand.
Daniel Negreanu is known for saying his favorite hand is 7-10 off suit, because he flops a lot of straights with it. He likes the off-suit because it is “double suited” (he can make two kinds of four flushes.)
What are some other people’s favorite hands?

6 opinions for Favorite Hands

My favorite pocket pair is 10-10, because for some reason I almost always get a set with it. I have no idea why, must be a karma thing (10 being such a round number, idk).
My favorite hand, without question, is 96 suited. I don’t think any other hand has made me more money, usually when I have a boat and someone else has a straight or flush.

I try not to have favorite hands because it usually ends up getting you in trouble because you play them when normally wouldn’t play them.
But my favorites are:
Pocket 10’s. I seem to win quite a bit with this hand and I can get away with it when I sense a bigger pocket pair or flopped pair.
6 7 suited. I have a flush draw, two straight draws (low and the high) and of course the dreaded straight flush draw.
And my favorite crappy hand is 10 5 (suited or off suite doesn’t matter).
I have flopped 2 pair and/or filled with this hand numerous times and no one puts me on it. I only play it in position and if the call isn’t too much.

[…] perusing my colleague Blake’s poker blog All Poker Addicts, I came across a post about “favorite hands” and it got me thinking (put away the fire extinguisher, my head always does that when I think): […]

Weird, I never seem to have lucky with 10’s. I flop a lot of sets with kings lately, I don’t know why.
Durden, we already knew that, baby.

8-9 suited, no question. Think of all the possibilities with this one and all of the ways you can really hit the flop hard or at least get a dynamite draw with it.
