Full Tilt Poker $25k Heads Up Championship

by Blake on May 12th, 2008

from FullTiltPoker.com:

“With a tournament buy-in of $25,000 per player, heads-up poker action doesn’t get any bigger or more exciting than this - the $25K Heads-Up World Championship hosted by 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Champion and Team Full Tilt member Chris Ferguson.

At $25K, this is the largest buy-in for a heads-up tournament ever held either live or online. Log on to Full Tilt Poker starting at 15:00 ET on Saturday, May 24th to watch players like Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and Jennifer Harman battle it out for bragging rights and this coveted title. You can even watch key hands or matches you may have missed with post-event commentary and analysis provided by Ali Nejad and Chris Ferguson.”

Wow, didn’t see that coming. That indeed is a large buy-in tournament for live or online buyins. I don’t see how anyone but the big names could afford this, or why you’d want to pay so much to play online. But it will surely be an interesting thing to watch, and an interesting new development in the world of online poker.

Heads Up seems to be getting more and more popular these days. I’ll agree, it’s more of a test of skill than a lot of other games, though just as subject to suck outs and the like, though perhaps slightly to a lesser extent.

Interesting all around.

3 opinions for Full Tilt Poker $25k Heads Up Championship

I read about the $25k buy-in and thought it was a joke. I really don’t see who will play it to be honest. I read a post by The Wacokid (I think) and he said he’dbeen invited to play along with 31 others but he turned them down as he didn’t want to put up the $25k or sell pieces of himself and owe a ton in makeup.

Should make a great observers event if it finally goes ahead though.

This is nothing more then marketing for Full Tilt and NBC.

They know full well that the majority of buy ins will all be Full tilt pros. I don’t think the PS pros are contractually allowed to play in this event.

So it’s a freaking Full Tilt love fest.

HU and Shoot-outs are becoming my forte. I like the action of HU. I get so bored in the huge MTT and end up playing mediocre hands I shouldn’t be.

I’ve been playing the HU Tourneys lately and love them. The only bad part is waiting for the slow players to finish up before the next round starts.

Agreed, yeah it really makes no feasible sense for anyone except those already getting paid by Full Tilt.

Poker advertisers need to realize that they need to be a little less translucent with their grabbing aims, as it leaves a sour taste.
