Losing with a Set
I don’t think there’s a much worse feeling that losing a big pot after flopping a set. It’s kind of like being given a present and then having someone stomp on it wearing cowboy boots before you get to open it.
Lost a big pot online today after flopping a set of 8’s against a guy who’d min raised his aces preflop, only to get all in on the turn and have him hit his 2-outer on the river.
I really don’t understand people who minraise preflop with KK or AA. In a way I do understand it because I get caught pushing against those hands when they are disguised so well, but it’s also easy to get caught with your pants down and it can be hard to tell where you’re at.
If you’re going to min raise or not raise preflop with big hands I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to push hard afterwards when the board looks weird, unless you’re just a gambler who wants to hope their hand held up.
It makes even less sense on these online tables where people are calling everything anyway.
Bitter bitter bitter.

Hahaha, I lost a huge pot last night in almost the same manner.
I call with pocket 2s from late position with 2 others in the pot. Board comes 4 4 K. Board is checked around. Turn reveals a 2 giving me a full house. Every one checks so I check hoping some one catches on the river. 5th street shows a 6. Player 1 bets the pot, player 2 folds, I raise 3 imes the original bet. Player 1 goes all in and I instacall of course.
The bastard flips over 4 6 suited for a bigger boat on the river.
I’m felted, proverbial dick in the dirt and almost broke yet another laptop.
I would have raised preflop but player 2 had been reraised all in the last 3 times I raised preflop. I was hoping to catch him with a set and get paid off.
Uhg.
