Notes while watching WSOP 2007 Main Event
Sully Erna is rather nauseating.
I can’t imaging Gus Hansen listening to his mini-tapes. Is that really efficient? He needs to write a poker book.
Scott Nguyen’s hair this year is really phenomenal. With the leather jacket and the white shirt white pants, his family should be proud. Though the ‘baby’ thing is almost as bad as Humberto Brenes.
Hal Lubarsky, the blind guy is screwing me up a little bit.
As ridiculous a player as Dario Minieri is, the worst thing of all is that damn scarf. Poker midget porn?
Norman Chad really needs to go.
The Degree all-in moment? Why hasn’t someone bought the term ‘bubble boy’? I’m the Pringles bubble boy.
These “poetic” poker commercials are absolutely killing me. “On this field, titans clash with the masses.” Who are they marketing to?
Seriously, certain aspects of “poker culture” have made the whole thing almost intolerable. I can’t think about this anymore. More thoughts later.

I’m still a poker newbie but agree with some of your comments or indeed just agree that you should be commenting on some of these players and about (the slightly sad) poker culture.
Hate the way some of these players are described as ‘poker gods’. It’ll (might) be interesting to see how many of these players are around in a couple of years time when the slkill levels and professionalism increase as the game gets more popular.
Nice to see all the little egos blown away - by a little girl!

I agree. I’m interested to see how the game progresses years down the road. Glad I’m not the only one irritated… ;)

While we are on the subject of things I don’t like about poker culture (are we?) Allow me to have a little rant. It’s these professional poker player blogs that basically tell you about their glamorous lifestyle and staying at hotels. How interesting is that? Strategy and amusing stories are fine but don’t tell me what you had for lunch and don’t bother writing if you ended up finishing 43rd. Why would I be interested and are you only writing the blog because you are being paid to do so?

Well, there can still be valuable info from someone finishing 43rd, but I agree that the chit-chat from pros about how big their house is or how famous they are is pretty ridiculous.
I write the blog because I’m obsessed with poker. The smidge of pay is just a perk. thanks for reading!

Ya, Lubarsky was hard on the ego. It would be hard enough to lose, but to get knocked out by a guy who has never even seen his hole cards - that’s gotta hurt. You’d never hear the end of it at your home game if the blind guy sent you home.

Scott Nguyen’s white “Tableist” shirt was the best I thought… yeah baby!
