Poker Mood

by Blake on January 22nd, 2008

I haven’t been playing much lately. At most once a week and some days a few sit n go tournaments. I feel better about the game when I have a while to relax on it. I’d been playing too much and got too wrapped up in the day to day, and as a result started to hate the game again. Began to think about it as work work rather than fun work.

It’s nice how taking a short break to clear your head makes you realize that you actually enjoy the game enough that you’ll miss it when it’s gone. I am beginning to look forward to playing again. Which probably means that soon I’ll be back on the daily want. But that’s fine. Poker is about cycles. Not only in the way the cards lay but the way your mood towards it is affected. Or something like that.

I like this idea about, “poker is about cycles.” It implies that there is an up to every down.

Having someone suck out on me two nights in a row with quads will make me believe I am on the bottom side of this cycle.

Pocket AA’s drowned on the river by the fourth KK after a raise and a re-reraise preflop.

Very next day, called a raise with A 10 off in position and flopped four to the nut flush. Called a “continuation bet” or so I thought turned the flush and he rivered his last Jack.

Maybe its time for me to have quads. :p

I definitely feel you on that one, Frank. It’s hard to remember there IS an up when you have a week like that. Hence why I haven’t been around. But yes, an up to every down. So I’ll be seeing you soon. (Hopefully without either one of us holding quads)
