Sharkscope.com

by Blake on December 30th, 2007

I’m not sure how widespread knowledge of this site is, but if you play online poker you should probably know about the player database known as sharkscope.com, which keeps records of tournament information for most of the major online casinos. Every sit n go, every tournament online you’ve ever been in is recorded and updated immediately in their records, including stats of how many games you’ve played, winning streaks, average buy in, total profit, average return on investment and so on. It’s great information for keeping track of your playing, and it’s free (though paying subscribers get a lot more in-depth statistics, including hand by hand analysis, I believe).

The great thing about sharkscope, other than being able to keep up with yourself, is how you now have an immediate profile of any other player you happen to be sitting with at a table. Pop a player’s name into the database and you can see how much he’s won or lost, which obviously reveals a lot about a player’s style.

More fun, though, are the trash talk opportunities involved. There’s nothing quite like being a table with a guy who’s swinging his nuts around, talking trash to you or other players, and then you mention, well, buddy, you’ve lost more than $2000 in 400 games, including a streak of having lost your last 15 entires. Who are you again?

Their reactions can be amazing, particularly when they aren’t aware of sharkscope. I had one guy freaking out that I was a hacker and was messing with his account, to the point that he ended up throwing his ass around trying to bust me, and got busted himself.

There’s more fun to be had with online poker than just the cards.

1 opinion for Sharkscope.com

I have not heard of Sharkscope but there are other online databases who perform the same services. I do remember reading awhile back that one of the sites was closed down pending litigation because the online sites did not appreciate how the information was gleaned.

Basically, the sites would have to have a bot monitoring every game (as a spectator) or the online sites would need to hand the information over to the services. I don’t think the online sites would fork the info over even if they were paid so ….

It is an interesting concept though that you don’t get to see with live poker.
