The cold streak continues

by Blake on September 21st, 2007

Another long night of cards at our weekly $.50/$1 home game in which I played pretty much perfectly over a 4-5 hours and ended up with almost triple my buy-in, only to take a short string of rather crappy beats followed by a mammoth all-in for the last hand of the night where the most loose player left at the table decided to come over the top of me for all his money with a small pair, thinking I’d lay it down just because it was the last hand and wouldn’t want to put my profit in jeopardy after 2-3 months of bad beats and cold cards ending my night. Ended up getting it all in with JJ against his 55 only to see 345 flop, then after a possible board straight on the turn, once again saw all money pushed away.

Before that I got my car stuck in a sinkhole in the street only to have my huge Tahoe lowered in the ground with the right front wheel encased in pavement. Spent 2 hours while a couple of old guys from AAA debated how the hell to lift it out of there, which resulted in them getting the lift part of the truck embedded in the underbelly of my car. They had to take a tire off and endure all sorts of screeching of metal on metal before the thing finally came out. I should have known I wasn’t going to make any money that night. I should have gotten right back in my unearthed car and drove home.

It’s getting rather difficult to handle this downswing, I’ll admit. I’ve had long ones, but I’ve been running bad for 4-5 months now, with a couple of small spikes in the middle that have kept me from giving up the game altogether. I think I’m going to have to take a long break though and wait for Satan to exit my poker body so perhaps the next time I’m a 5-1 leader I can actually walk away with money.
